The Coach Kate Sportsmanship Award recognises individuals who exemplify the joy, passion, and sportsmanship that Kate Colahan brought to athletics. It celebrates those who positively influence the athletics community through enthusiasm, respect, inclusion, and a genuine love for the sport, contributing to the positive development and future growth of athletics.

Kate's energy lit up every athletics venue she stepped into—from cheering on athletes from every team, to showing that sport is for everyone, to leading a dance in the stadium that had the crowd on their feet. Her creative mind and positive spirit could brighten even the dullest day. Kate’s legacy lives on—in every athlete, coach, and community she inspired, and through the vibrant energy she brought to our sport

Eligibility
Nominations may be submitted for individuals who are members of Athletics North Queensland, including:

• Athletes
• Coaches
• Administrators
• Officials
• Parents or volunteers

Nominees must demonstrate behaviour and values consistent with the spirit of the award between a 12 month period, a period starting 24 August. Nominations will close on 24 August each year. The panel will advise the office no later than 4 September of their selection

Who May Nominate
Nominations may be submitted by:

• Athletes
• Coaches
• Parents or guardians
• Club officials or administrators
• Volunteers or members of the athletics community

Self-nominations are not allowed.

Selection Criteria 

Nominees should demonstrate one or more of the following:

• Outstanding sportsmanship and respect for others
• A positive, encouraging, and inclusive attitude
• Passion and enthusiasm for athletics participation
• Commitment to creating fun, memorable experiences for others
• Contribution to the growth and enjoyment of athletics at any level 
• Ability to inspire others through actions, attitude, and example

Nomination Categories

Up to three individuals may receive this award each year, in the following categories

• Athlete - someone that hold as athlete membership - no age limits
• Coach - someone that holds a coach accreditation
• Volunteer - a sport administrator, official, parent, volunteer or similar
