Call for nominations for Aoraki President, Secretary and Treasurer. Etc.
Published Wed 18 Jun 2025
After the 2025 AGM, the Team Delegates felt they were not in a position to decide who should hold the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer for the next year (and beyond). Remember that Noel Anderton, Amy McClurg and Chris Sheppard told Aoraki they were stepping down (although Chris has since decided that he is available for re-election).
On Wednesday, we sent a final reminder that "we need to have all nominations in hand by the end of today" (18 June) for people interested in standing for the positions of President, Secretary and/or Treasurer of Aoraki Dragons. These nominations especially need some background information and we recommend you include a spiel in your Bio to address what you "bring to the table" to tackle the issues that face us as Dragon Boaters.
As well as those "Principal Officer" roles, we still have vacancies for other keen people to step up for roles on the Board, or (if you can't face being involved in our meetings) to help out from time to time in what we used to call the "Junior Board" so that you can keep this sport going, and learn about how it works.
Meanwhile, we are finalising the Minutes from the AGM of 8 June, so once we have those editorial changes done (in a day or so), we will send them out, along with the list of Candidates.
Noel Anderton,
Caretaker President, Aoraki Dragons
[Update] re Voting for Principal Office Holders. Final Nominations are:
- Andrew Watson (President)
- Karen Lloyd-Griffiths (President)
- Kalia Williams (Secretary)
- Gilly McGill (Secretary)
- Chris Sheppard (Treasurer)
- Mike Robinson (Treasurer)
Each Team that is an active and financial member of Aoraki has ONE vote at the AGM. So if a Club (say, Southern Dragons) has a Standard Boat and a Small Boat then they can have any number of people at the meeting, but they only get 2 votes (one per team). At the start of the meeting we will have a Roll Call to record who carries a Team vote, versus who are "speaking rights but not voting".
Before voting starts, it's usual to ask if anyone wants the vote to be done in secret. But for our AGM, I will be conducting them by secret ballot, because it will be much easier for our scrutineers to count and check the votes. Scrutineers will be Secretary plus one non-board member (Dorothy McPhail).
For online voting, we have options for voting. It could be via the Chat Window on the Teams Meeting (sent DIRECTLY to Amy) or it's probably easier to Txt it to Amy on her phone.
We will also offer Proxy voting, even though this is a bit old fashioned, when people can join via video link etc.
