“As you are aware, the threat of COVID-19 has resulted in many precautionary measures across government, industry and the broader Australian community. As is to be expected in an issue of this type, people are uncertain of what action to take to protect the safety of themselves, their families, friends and colleagues. Contradictory or incorrect information in some elements of the media and the sensationalising of some stories obviously adds to everyone’s concerns.
To manage the risk associated with COVID-19, the Organising Committee has been actively monitoring developments and government advice on a daily basis. Thankfully, none of our sailors or friends have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and we continue to follow all official advice relating to self-isolation and other mitigation measures. The OA has been in contact with the Australian Department of Health and the ACT Department of Health and the situation was discussed at the Canberra Yacht Club Management Committee meeting on 10 March.
Given the potential problems and concerns and the rate with which the circumstances are changing, the situation where the majority of our sailors present as people with compromised health conditions, we are cancelling the Championships on the Easter weekend and are considering postponing the Championships to a possible future date of 2 to 5 October.”

The Canberra Yacht Club (the Organising Authority) and the Australian Hansa Class Association (AHCA) extends an invitation to all Hansa Class sailors to participate in the 2020 Hansa Class Australian Championships.

Entry fees Include t-shirt, Regatta Dinner and packed lunches Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Coaching Program
A free coaching program will be held ahead of the Australian Hansa Class Championships on Thursday and Friday April 9 & 10 at Canberra Yacht Club. Led by Australian Para Sailing Coach Mike Darby, the program will commence at 1pm on the Thursday allowing time for sailors to rig their boats in the morning. Australian Sailing’s Para Sailing Coordinator David Staley will hold a para sailing information session on Thursday afternoon at 5pm – all are welcome. On the Friday, on-water sessions will be held at 10am and 2pm to allow participants time for event registration and measurement. During the regatta, Mike will provide a morning briefing, on-water support and an afternoon debrief each day. An invitation is extended to all competitors in the Championships, but participants must register their interest by Thursday April 2 via email to parasailing@sailing.org.au.
