About NSW Goalball

Goalball is a team sport played competitively by athletes with vision impairment. It was created after WWII in an effort to rehabilitate and keep veterans with blindness and low vision active.

Role Title: Competition Official Intern

Positions Available: 10

Type: Unpaid volunteer

Duration April 25 – October 3

Location: ACPE Homebush, Penrith Valley Regional Sport Centre, Occasional School Visits 

Position Description:

The Competitions Official Intern will complete a nationally recognised officials accreditation subsidised by NSW Goalball. The Competition Official will be required to complete both theoretical and practical training and attend school, regional and state competitions in the lead up to the Australian Goalball Championships where they will help officiate the Australian Goalball Championships (AGCs) held between the 30th September – 3nd October.

Responsibilities:

The Competition Official Intern will be expected to-

• Become a member of NSW Goalball (at no cost to themselves) and adhere to the terms & conditions and code of conduct;

• Complete a face-to-face theory training provided by an internationally recognised Goalball Official (4hrs);

• Officiate 10-15 games leading into the Australian Goalball Championships. These can be schools competitions, Sydney City Cup or interregional competitions (15 hrs);

• Complete a formal assessment (3hrs);

• Officiate in the Australian Goalball Championships 30th September – 3nd October (20hrs);

• Assist in competition preparation, including but not limited tofixturing, court set up and results entry;

• Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times; • Promote the sport in a positive light;

• Help foster an inclusive, safe and fun environment for all members, participants and supporters.

Eligibility Criteria

• Current university or tertiary student studying Sports Management, Sports Administration or a similar degree;

• Demonstratable professionalism, tenacity and time management skills;

• Previous officiating experience desirable but not mandatory;

• A valid WWCC;

• Ability to travel regionally & work after hours/weekends where necessary;

• Available to officiate at the Australian Goalball Championships held in Penrith 30th Sep – 3nd Oct (non-negotiable).
