  • Short description about your organisation, its aims, functions and who it serves: IENA is an official US Government Visa Sponsor. IENA’s role is to find, vet and place internationals at American Summer Camps.
  • Position title: Camp Counselor/Leader
  • Whether internship, voluntary or paid: You paid, a minimum of US$2250 for 9 weeks work, plus free food, and accommodation as well as up to 4 months medical insurance coverage for the USA.
  • (If not fulltime) Hours per week / time commitment (if known); minimum of 9 weeks.

  • Description of the role: what is the purpose, who is it working with, what are the main tasks: As a Camp Counselor/Leader, you are responsible for a group of children that live in your cabin. You wake them up, get them ready for the day, eat meals with them. During the day teach children the fun (non-academic) things you like to do: Dance (all types), cheer, gymnastics, sports, arts, performing, water adventure, lifeguarding, waterskiing, horse riding, camping, climbing & much more - over 200 activities. In the evening you do evening programs and get them to bed at night.
  • Selection criteria - what skills, experience or qualities are you looking for? Which are essential, which are desired? Experience working with children (babysitting, coaching, teaching, leading). Confident to teach, lead, coach or assist in 1 or more of the 200 activities that summer camps offer.
  • Benefits for students, e.g. training provided, what they will learn, what roles the experience can lead to either in the organisation or industry more broadly: You will receive a pre-departure presentation prior to departure and between 1 – 2 weeks of training prior to the children arriving at camp. As a camp leader You will write or assist in writing your own lesson plans, that you then put into practice over the 8 weeks of children coming to camp. You must be available for a minimum of 9 weeks. ACPE and IENA work together to allow you to return later in August (missing a week or two of class) so you can work at a Summer Camp. ACPE see the great benefits from you working at a camp. Daily you have firsthand teaching experience, working directly with children aged 8 – 15, to hone your skills, leadership, and teaching styles at camp.
