ABOUT THE ROLE
Inspired by the highest ideals of collaboration, cooperation, integrity and teamwork, a sports coach is an integral member of the Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy (KSAA). The role of the Athletic Development Coach is to assist with the Coaching and execution of various strength & conditioning and movement skill-based sessions to school students of all abilities aged between 8 to 18 years of ages. The Athletic Development Coach will work within the Athletic Development, KnoxFit, SWAT and Preparatory School Combined Sports programs.
KnoxFit is a CrossFit style non-competitive mass participation sport open to all students of differing physical abilities. Working within the KnoxFit program, the coach will need to be comfortable working in a gym-based and outdoor settings.
“SWAT” (Senior Weights and Training) is a strength-based program that aims to create education around gym based programs and the benefits of long-term positive change in exercise participation. Working within the SWAT program, the coach will need to be delivering strength-based programs, suitable for developing school students. Some programming may be required.
Preparatory School Combined Sport is an athletic development program focused on participation, fundamental and sport related skill development. Coaching in this setting requires a broad range of environmental handling and communication styles to provide opportunities to learn and enjoy the process of skill acquisition.
Athletic Development at Knox Grammar School runs year long and includes morning and afternoon training sessions with hours varying from Monday to Friday and Saturday Mornings. The role may require up to 10-15 hours of commitment during school terms.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III in Fitness
- Certificate IV in Fitness
- First Aid Certificate
- Current Provide/Perform CPR
- Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
- Experience working with young adolescents, ideally in a school setting
- Understanding of mentoring, supporting and encouraging players
