The Opportunity 

The perfect role for Sports lovers! The Sport Programs Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, support and development of sport, active recreation and sporting clubs affiliated with NUsport to ensure the growth and sustainability of these clubs. The role will manage NUsport’s Social Sport Program and Residential College Sport Program, as well as assist with the coordination of University of Newcastle (UON) teams in intervarsity competitions and the Elite Athlete Program. 

Reporting to the Sport Programs Manager this very active role will see you will liaise with external stakeholders such as students, sports clubs and affiliates, as well as manage a team of Sports Officials employed by NUsport.  As NUsport operates 7 days a week, this position will suit someone who is passionate about the sports, health and leisure industry, and doesn’t mind being flexible and adaptable to suit the demands of the sport programs schedule. 

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Manage sport programs and events including competition management and weekly rostering of sports officials 
  • Provide operational and governance support to NUsport Clubs and stakeholders
  • Coordinate UON Team participation at NSW Intervarsity events, and actively seek and develop Intervarsity opportunities for UON students 
  • Coordinate NUsport Club facility hire requests and assist in maintenance checks of relevant facilities
  • Travel locally and interstate for various sporting events and assist with managing these events
  • Assist the Sport Programs Manager with coordination and delivery of Elite Athlete Programs
  • Act as a Work Health and Safety champion by reporting hazards, training others and supporting actions to improve health and safety 

About You

This is the perfect opportunity for someone with 1 -3 years’ experience in a similar role, who is passionate about sport and enjoys planning and liaising with various stakeholders. Other requirements include: 

  • Experience within the Club Sport Administration landscape across a variety of sport and active recreation disciplines
  • Skilled in competition and event management and coordination of projects and programs on time, safely and within budget
  • Sound decision making ability and willingness to embrace change 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, demonstrating clear communication in a team environment
  • Computer literacy and the ability to learn systems and procedures quickly 
  • Adherence to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture
