Work at a summer camp in America as a Camp Leader/Counselor/Guide

Since 1985, CCUSA has helped Aussies complete their dream to work, travel and play at a summer camp in America on the Camp Counselors USA program. Camps typically run for 9-12 weeks. Summer camps start anywhere from late May to mid-June and finish mid to late August.

CCUSA, Australia’s leading official U.S. State Department J-1 v\isa sponsor, is internationally recognised, working with over 1000 camps and recruiting from over 40 countries. CCUSA provides a fun, safe and rewarding way to experience the USA and all that it has to offer.

YOUR ROLE AT CAMP:

• As a camp counselor you will be an ambassador for your country and a role model, guide and hero to your campers (typically aged 5 – 16).
• While at camp you are there to supervise the campers and make their camp experience as fun and rewarding as possible.
• During the day you will teach and coach campers in a variety of activities including but not limited to sports, water activities, fitness, performing arts and more.
• In the evenings you will be responsible for programming and getting the campers to bed/ up in the morning.
• You will typically get a day and evening off each week at camp.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in coaching, teaching and leading children in a variety of activities (including sports, fitness, performing arts at various skill levels.
• A person who is patient, positive, adaptable, flexible, hard-working and enthusiastic with a good sense of humour.
• An outgoing and eager person who wants to teach and pass on their knowledge to children.

PROGRAM INCLUDES:

• Summer camp placement.
• J-1 camp counselor visa through CCUSA – your visa sponsor.
• Step by step assistance with the visa and application process.
• World-wide travel insurance while at camp.
• Free food and accommodation for your time at camp.
• US$2,000 pocket money for 9-week placement.

COSTS:

• Program cost: AU$749 (this cost covers your 3-4 months travel/medical/covid insurance for the USA, visa sponsorship and administration/placement support)
• J1 camp counselor visa cost is US$265 (paid to the US Consulate)
• Australian Federal police check AU$42
• Flights (based on where your camp is approx. AU$1400 - $2000)

APPLICATION – HOW TO APPLY:

• To apply – create an account through the CCUSA website: https://www.ccusa.com.au/apply then follow the steps to complete an online application.
• CCUSA will then connect with you to set up an interview, discuss the additional supporting items required and then start the camp placement process to match you up to a summer camp in the USA.
