About the position:
Newington College has exciting Strength & Conditioning unpaid Internship opportunities within our Sport Department for highly motivated individuals to commence in Term 1, 2023.
The Newington Sports Department is responsible for managing the year-round compulsory sports program for the Stanmore Secondary Campus (7-12) and the Preparatory Campuses including Wyvern and Lindfield (K-6).
The successful candidates will have excellent verbal communication skills and possess the confidence to interact with a diverse range of children. The successful candidate will have a passion to work with children and enhance their athletic abilities at all levels.
Interns will gain valuable experience in both Strength and Conditioning theory and practice as it relates to elite schoolboy sport. This is a well-established curriculum-based program with many previous interns gaining employment in the industry.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
- Develop your own coaching philosophy and methodology
- Understand what it meant to interact positively and engage young athletes
- Be competent in coaching Olympic Lifting
- Develop an understanding of Speed training techniques
- Better understanding of training load and weekly scheduling
- Understand and implement sport science practices
- Develop a high level of confidence in applying your trade
About you:
We have deliberately not provided set and narrow selection criteria. However, it would be expected that the successful candidate will:
- have the desire to be a strength & conditioning professional
- minimum requirement of currently completing an Exercise Science degree (or equivalent) and/or pursuing an ASCA Coach accreditation
- possess the desire to learn and be enthusiastic about improving the performance and personal growth of our students.
- work effectively as a member of an enthusiastic team
- have the willingness to invest and embrace the culture of the College
- demonstrate strong communicational skills
- have a valid Working With Children Check
