Wellington Phoenix is an important and integral part of New Zealand’s sporting landscape, enjoying passionate support from all over New Zealand and the world. The Wellington Phoenix FC is based at Valentines Sports Park located in Glenwood. The sports science/S&C internship role will involve working with the first team staff and players.

Criteria

• Hold or working towards a bachelor’s degree in S&C, sports science.

• Self-directed, motivated, and able to commit to the role.

• Holding or working towards an ASCA Level 1 accreditation.

Overview

• 12-15h per week, volunteered. Training days may vary from week to week.

• Work under the guidance of the Wellington Phoenix S&C/sports science staff.

• Work in a professional football club competing in the A-League.

Learning Outcome/Experience

• Opportunity to work in a professional football environment.

• Gain an insight and understanding of periodisation, GPS data analysis, testing and screening.

• Assist in gym-based S&C sessions.

• S&C programming.

• Insight into athlete monitoring, warm ups and recovery strategies.
