ACPE in partnership with Water Polo NSW are offering a Strength & Conditioning internship for multiple ACPE students. The internship will allow students to gain industry based experience in a gym environment. Under the instruction and supervision of high-performance coaches, the successful applicants will be exposed to a pre-elite sports program which encompasses both professional and technique development to assist with post-graduate employability.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This newly created strength and conditioning position will support the experienced and qualified High-Performance S&C coaches to execute and deliver athletic development programs for nationally identified players. The position will allow you to collaborate with coaches to work with high- performance male & female Water Polo players and gain expertise and insight into real world injury prevention and high-performance training. Sessions will run on Monday & Wednesday evenings and Saturdays mornings.
POSITION DETAILS:
- Support coaching staff in planning and delivering strength and conditioning programme for athletes (individual and group)
- Tailor specific and appropriate strength and conditioning exercises i.e. mobility
- Assist in recording and reporting and the progress of athletes (i.e. load monitoring, injury rehab)
- Assist in conducting warm-ups & cool downs at sessions
STUDENT QUALITIES:
- Strong work ethic and desire to learn
- Ability to work autonomously and show initiative
- Effective communication & relationship building skills
- Capability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
- Understanding of exercise/sport science principles of strength and conditioning, exercise prescription, and biomechanics (specifically relating to safe and effective exercise technique).
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Exercise and Sport Science Student (or equivalent)
- Ability to attend a minimum of 80% of the sessions
DESIRED SKILLS
- Current/previous experience in S&C programming
- Knowledge of/experience with Water Polo
