South West Gravel Skillz & Ride Series for Juniors & Women

This is a series for riders new to gravel who want to build confidence and skills and meet other people who are gravel enthusiasts.

You’ll learn about bike set-up, body position, gears and braking. You will learn how to safely mount and dismount and start/stop on varying terrain. You’ll also learn foundations of cornering, as well as skills for climbing and descending. And you will get to enjoy a short ride with your new gravel friends.

Junior riders: ages 11+. Riders under 13 to be accompanied by an adult.

There is no restriction on the type of bike that can be used. Bikes must have two working brakes. Time Trial bars not permitted. Given the terrain, we strongly recommend a minimum tyre width of 33mm, with sufficient grip to handle loose gravel. An Australian Standards (or equivalent) approved helmet must be worn.

Can I ride an eBike? Yes, if it is compliant with WA Government regulations:

  • Riders must be 16 years or older to use an eBike
  • The motor can have a maximum power output up to 250 watts.
  • The bike needs human power to make it move - it is not meant to be ridden using the motor alone (like a motorcycle).

What to bring:

  • roadworthy bike suitable for riding on gravel
  • Australian Standards approved helmet (or equivalent)
  • mobile with Telstra network coverage or a satellite communications device (e.g. Garmin Inreach)
  • all spares (tube, puncture repair kit)
  • drinks & snacks
  • any medication you might require
