Important Info - Maccabi Cricket Registration 2023/24

Welcome to Maccabi Ajax Junior Cricket registration for season 2023/24.

Registrations officially open on 31 July 2023 and will be closing on Thursday 31 August.

This registration process applies for U11, U13, U15 and U17. Registration for Junior Blasters and Master Blasters will be announced in the coming weeks.

All teams are subject to be closed early if our maximum number of players per age group is reached. If this occurs, players will be added to a waitlist.

Fees:

Our MAJCC fee is $400 for the season. This fee has remained the same as last year, in fact the last 9 years!

In addition, as usual, you will need to pay Cricket Victoria’s mandatory National Registration Fee. This is now $16 (previously $6.55). It covers insurance and digital services costs.

The fees include a match day shirt, cap and training top. In addition, the fees help defray some of the costs of coaching, ground hire, equipment purchases, insurance and association entry fees to name a few.

For information about the potential for fee assistance please refer to the section below on "Fee assistance" (near the bottom of this email).

Registration:

PlayHQ has replaced MyCricket as Cricket Victoria’s registration and administration platform from this season. MyCricket, which is now called PlayCricket, will still be active and provide you with access to fixtures, ladders and historical statistics.

Further information regarding the transition to PlayHQ can be found here.

Cricket Australia provides clear guidelines on the pathway for junior cricketers. For players aged 5 to 8 they recommend they participate in the Junior Blasters and Master Blaster Programs. As a guide, players should be in grade 3 before they play Under 11 cricket Please note, registrations for Junior Blasters and Master Blasters will open later in August and their season will commence in late October.

Players must play in their correct age group – they can’t choose to play at a higher or lower age group.

Training:

Training will be held on a Monday or a Wednesday night from 5:30pm - 7pm. Teams, training dates and venues will be advised after registration closes. There may be slight variations to these times for older groups.

Player gear and equipment:

Players MUST wear white pants while playing matches. All first-year players should consult with their coach to become aware of clothing and equipment required on match day. Although the Club supplies the basic equipment, certain items will be required to be purchased by each player.

Team Selection Policy

Teams will be selected from registered, paid up players only.

Under 11 teams are not graded. Once teams have been finalised no players are to change teams.

U13A and B sides are graded with remaining U13 sides to be composed of players of similar ability. To be selected in an A or B side, kids must show commitment to cricket and will be expected to attend all training sessions as well as display a positive attitude. Other considerations to be considered will be previous years technical and values-based performance as assessed via Mycricket and the team coach. Changes to teams may take place in A squads in the first few weeks of the year.

Trials: U13 & U15 trials for team selection will be held in August/September.

If you are aware that you are unable to attend training or play in matches due to other extracurricular activities, you must seek clarification from the Registration officer before registering as it may impact on selection. At the higher levels of under 13 and at under 15 and above, players who do not attend training or who consistently show disruptive behaviour may be impacted with limited opportunities on game day.

Parent Participation:

Whilst we all have numerous commitments, parents should support their children by attending as many of the matches as they can. The Club also requires parents to become involved in the Club activities. Parents are required to assist with ground set-up, scoring, morning tea and packing up, as well as volunteering with Team Manager responsibilities. Teams without team managers will not be able to compete in the competition. We will be very firm with this requirement. You can express interest in volunteering for the club through the registration process.

Volunteers Needed:

As you may be aware, the strength of the club is only as good as the volunteers behind it. The current committee continue to put in a tremendous effort to ensure the successful running of the cricket club, but we are looking for some help. Specifically, the following positions are available for someone with the interest:

· Marketing Manager - to help with the promotion of the club throughout the year including on social media.

· Secretary - to minute committee meetings and assist with comms to the general parent body.

· 2 subcommittee roles who would help committee members at various times of year - eg – team photos, club events etc.

Fee assistance:

We understand that some families may be experiencing financial hardship. To help support families, the Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation has established a fund to provide support. Details of the program are found on the below link and can be utilised during step 2 of the registration process should you meet the qualifying criteria. To express an interest in receiving funding, details can be provided on the below website. If you are applying through this, you must let the club know by sending an email to majccvic@gmail.com so we can consider your child for trials and team allotment.

Further Enquiries:

If you have any enquiries, please email the club at majccvic@gmail.com and we will reply within 48 hours. Please note we are all volunteers, and we will do our best to respond within that period. All communication will be done via email only.

We look forward to welcoming both new and existing members to the Maccabi Ajax Junior Cricket Club for the upcoming season. Please also refer to the Maccabi Website and our Facebook page for further updates with exact details of training dates and venues to be advised by email after the processing of all registrations.

Thank you for your ongoing support, looking forward to a wonderful season ahead!

Finally, I would like to remind parents of our parent code of behaviour – adherence to this allows for a great season for all involved.

  • Do not force an unwilling child to participate in cricket;
  • Remember, children are involved in cricket for their enjoyment, not yours;
  • Encourage your child to play by the rules;
  • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing;
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game;
  • Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances and skillful play by all participants;
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities;
  • Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise;
  • Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate;
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
