Important Information - please read before submitting your application

IRB Drivers Camp is the introduction to driving IRBs in the surf, building upon existing IRB crew skills. We focus on developing both in and out of water skills, with boat and motor maintenance theory sessions as well as practical driving experience in varying surf conditions throughout the week, including performing rescues using an IRB.

Please note: assessment of the IRB Driver Course does not take place on camp. Students are expected to continue to gain experience after camp and can request assessment when they have completed their required hours which have been recorded in a logbook. More information about assessment dates will be provided on camp. In accordance with the IRB Driver Training Standard Policy, candidates must be at least 17 years old on the date of final assessment.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Be a financial member of Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club (ASLSC)
  • Be previous member of ASLSC for at least one season
  • Be at least 16 years old at the start of camp
  • Have completed a minimum of 16 patrol hours in the previous season, of which 50% must be on-beach (not nipper water safety) patrol hours at Anglesea beach
  • Hold a current Bronze Medallion
  • Hold a current IRB Crew Certificate
  • Provide evidence of a current Marine Licence
  • Be available for the entire camp

IRB Drivers Camp Application Criteria:

  • Level of involvement in the club (e.g. patrol, competition, nippers, training).
  • Please note camp numbers are restricted to 20 places.

Candidates are supervised day and night and live-in at ASLSC. The instructors are all highly qualified surf lifesavers, and we also provide pastoral care and medical support from trained professionals. Food is kindly provided by Camp Wilkin.

Applications will be reviewed by our Member Development panel against the criteria and we will contact applicants to confirm successful registration.
